Employment History

Prior to his employment with Edwards Marshall, Steven was employed as a trainee accountant at Commercial Motor Vehicles from 1979 to 1981 and as an auditor with Stevens Searcy Hill from 1983 to 1985.

Steven was employed with Edwards Marshall in 1985, primarily involved in the Taxation and Management Services divisions.  He was admitted to the partnership of Edwards Marshall on 1 January 1995.

Steven qualified as a financial planner in 2003 and now spends sixty percent of his time on financial planning services and the balance assisting his small to medium sized business clients with taxation, GST and profit improvement issues.

Specialist Areas

Steven is a qualified financial adviser.  He specialises in preparing plans to guide clients towards maximising their ‘after tax’ wealth.  Steven combines his extensive tax knowledge with his skills as a Financial Planner to prepare and communicate clever and comprehensive financial plans.

One of Steven’s great advantages over many other financial planners is his knowledge of taxation law and the small business CGT concessions and his ability to use this knowledge in the plans he prepares and implements for clients.

A major interest for Steven is assisting clients with business succession.  He has developed a nine point plan for succession which has been successfully implemented with many clients.

Steven has considerable experience with the provision of management consulting and business services to the following industries/sectors:

Steven has a strong interest in GST and has conducted many training sessions for clients and associates.  He prepared “GST manuals” and “Impact Reports” for clients in relation to the introduction of the GST.  He has presented many sessions on GST including two for the Taxation Institute of Australia entitled "Impact of GST on the Manufacturing and Retail Sectors".

Steven has extensive experience with franchise arrangements, litigation support assignments, business valuations, budgeting, forecasting and management accounting.  He has assisted many clients with working through issues related to the purchase or sale of businesses.
