Martin commenced employment with Edwards Marshall in February 1999. He was promoted to Manager in January 2006, elevated to Senior Manager in November 2009 and appointed Director in August 2011.
Martin worked in the Assurance Services and Business Services divisions before transferring to the firm’s Forensic Accounting and Litigation Support group. Martin has broad ranging commercial experience and currently specialises in business valuations, calculations of loss, financial investigations and accounting reconstructions.
Martin commenced his career at Edwards Marshall in the Audit and Assurance Services division where he worked on audits of a variety of organisations including large manufacturing corporations, not for profit entities and educational institutions.
Martin was retained to design and document risk management systems for a financial services client.
Martin transferred to the firm’s Business Consulting Services division where he provided accounting, taxation and related services to clients.
Martin has been involved in accounting and consulting engagements which have included risk management, investment analyses and acquisition and divestment advice.
Martin has been exposed to numerous industries including property development, aquaculture, retail, wine making, manufacturing and environmental conservation.
Martin has been involved in litigation support engagements requiring the reconstruction of accounting records and financial statements, business valuations and assessments of losses and opinions in respect of audit negligence.
Valuations
Martin has been involved in the valuation of small and medium size businesses with a variety of ownership structures. Businesses have included service providers, hoteliers, builders, vignerons, aged care providers, insurance companies, retail and wholesale traders and investment enterprises.
Assessments of Loss
Martin has been engaged on a significant number of assignments in connection with the assessment of economic loss suffered by plaintiffs in a wide range of activities and circumstances.
Reconstructions
Martin has been responsible for the reconstruction of accounting records and financial statements of a number of enterprises subject to fraud. This has involved detailed analyses of accounting records and systems and the use of complex financial modelling.
Audit Negligence
Martin has been involved in matters where claims have been made against accounting firms alleging negligent audits. These assignments have required an evaluation of professional services in the context of relevant professional requirements including auditing and accounting standards.
Martin has prepared valuations and provided advice in respect of various commercial transactions.
Martin has also been involved in a number of due diligence engagements on both the buy and sell sides.
